Post traumatic stress occurs
when a person has been faced with an extreme trauma that the brain
has difficulty in processing. Experiences so out of the ordinary
and so terrifying that they have not even been imagined before,
sometimes remain in our awareness for some time after the event
has ceased, causing the sufferer a range of disturbing symptoms.
For some people, symptoms like flashbacks, anxiety, anger reactions,
nightmares and sleeplessness can cause changes that prevent healthy
functioning. It is in these cases, that therapy may be beneficial
to explore the cause of the symptoms and to work on new coping mechanisms.
ONE-OFF EXPLORATORY CONSULTATIONS
Most of our clients come to us with some idea of where they
feel they need support but others are not sure where the problem
lies. Our practitioners will help you decide how you would like
to move forward with the system and can help you to define a comfortable
pace and direction for your treatment.
If you are unsure about your therapy needs, and would like to discuss
this with one of our qualified practitioners, you can arrange to
have an initial exploratory consultation. You will be able to ask
questions about PsychologyOnline and about how we think your treatment
could progress.
However, having an assessment does not automatically mean that
therapy will be recommended
